Stable Hand & Horse Rider

Looking for a live-in stable hand/ horse rider & dog walker – to work part time (primarily mornings). Must be a very experienced horse rider and dog lover able to handle an extra-large, guard dog. This position would suit someone who would enjoy living on the premises in a brand new, stylish studio apartment available at a reduced rate of $300 weekly (market rental $550). The one-bedroom studio is privately situated within the barn complex, a comfortable distance from the house.

Paid duties in general include:

• Cleaning stables, yards and barn
• Paying attention to detail in maintaining high levels of horse care
• Feeding, grooming, hoof cleaning and rugging 2 to 4 horses
• Exercising 2 horses on trails and in arena
• Ensuring the general wellbeing of horses is high, including identifying where horses may be injured or require medical attention
• Walking and feeding dogs
• Some occasional property maintenance when required
• Job may sometimes involve driving to second property 25 minutes away to do the above horse care

Position details

• Require 5 to 6 days a week primarily morning work starting by latest 6.30 am. Needs to be flexible with hours within reason. One (or two) afternoons depending on the applicant having a second job and their availability.
• Shifts vary from 2 to 4.5 daily
• Approximately 15 to 20 hours weekly
• Live-in on premises paying $300 weekly (market rental $550)
• Remuneration is above the Award Pay Guide and offered according to level of experience

About You:

• Minimum two years’ experience working with horses in a similar role
• Demonstrated riding ability
• Experience in assessing a horse’s level of handling and temperament.
• Knowledge of general horse care and husbandry
• Experience with walking dogs and be able to walk a large guard dog
• Be physically fit and able to cope with the physical demands of the role
• Attention to detail and a high standard of care
• Current driver’s license required
• Preferred – ability to drive or learn to drive a gator and ride on mower and have an understanding of maintenance standards required for a horse property

We are a small acreage horse property located in Mt Nathan,10 minutes from the Nerang. Our second property is located 24 minutes from this property. In the near future, at our second property, there will potentially be an opportunity for the successful applicant to be entitled to complimentary self-care horse agistment.
